Collaborative Summit focused on Improving Mathematics Outcomes for ALL Middle School & Secondary Students

We are pleased to announce a statewide summit sponsored by Michigan’s Integrated Mathematics Initiative (Mi)2 in partnership with theMichigan Department of Education Office of Education Improvement and Innovation.There are two goals for this summit.The initial goal is to jumpstart a collaborative conversation focused on mathematics initiatives designed to improve outcomes for all learners. The long-term goal is to assist the state of Michigan in the creation of a more cohesive and collaborative system of support and professional development for educators as they strive to promote improved outcomes for all students in the area of mathematics.

There are many great initiatives focused on improving outcomes in mathematics. Where are they? What are they? The intention of this summit is to provide an opportunity to:
  • Gain a deeper understanding of existing initiatives
  • Discuss challenging issues regarding math education and what is being done to address them
  • Determine similarities, gaps, and opportunities for collaboration amongst various initiatives
  • Synthesize and disseminate the information in a way that is logical and intuitive

Who should attend the summit?
  • Decision makers at the regional levels
  • District leaders (Math Department Chairpersons, Curriculum coordinators, Directors of Special Education, Principals, Superintendents)
  • State level – Michigan Department of Education personnel
  • State and local Board of Education members

Summit Format:
  • Individual and Panel Presentations with large group discussion focused on existing Michigan Initiatives
  • Break-out discussions and problem-solving sessions involving all participants
